Impact
Researchers affiliated with the University of São Paulo produced some of the earliest formal observational work on ibogaine treatment for substance dependence outside North America, conducted under institutional ethics review and published in indexed journals. That Brazilian case-series literature is still cited in contemporary reviews as an early source of structured outcome and safety data, and it forms part of the reason Brazil features in accounts of medically supervised ibogaine practice.
