Multidisciplinary Association for Psychedelic Studies

The Multidisciplinary Association for Psychedelic Studies is a non-profit research and education organization that has been involved in ibogaine work since the 1990s. It compiled and published an investigator's brochure for ibogaine, a document that assembles the pharmacology, toxicology, safety, and prior human-experience literature in the format used to support applications to drug regulators, and which is one of the most substantial single reference documents in the field. The organization also supported observational studies of ibogaine treatment outcomes at providers operating in Mexico and New Zealand, in which participants were followed over time and results were published in peer-reviewed journals. Beyond ibogaine specifically, it publishes educational material, funds research on other psychedelic compounds, and has been a long-standing participant in regulatory and policy discussion about psychedelic medicines. Its documented effect on the ibogaine space is largely bibliographic and organizational: it produced reference material that later researchers, clinicians and legislators cite; it funded data collection at a point when almost none existed; and it connected independent providers to academic investigators. The organization is not a treatment provider and does not administer ibogaine, and its published documents state the cardiac and other risks associated with the compound.
