Global Ibogaine Therapy Alliance

The Global Ibogaine Therapy Alliance is a non-profit association of ibogaine providers, researchers, and advocates. Its most widely cited contribution is the publication of clinical guidelines for ibogaine-assisted detoxification, a document that sets out screening criteria, cardiac assessment, exclusion criteria, dosing considerations, and aftercare recommendations for providers working outside regulated medical systems. Those guidelines are referenced in the research literature, by treatment providers describing their own protocols, and in harm-reduction material, and they represent one of the few sector-wide attempts to standardize practice in the absence of formal regulation. The organization has also convened conferences bringing together providers, clinicians, researchers, and members of communities with traditional iboga use, and has published educational and risk-information material for people considering treatment. It does not itself administer ibogaine, does not certify or inspect clinics, and its guidelines are voluntary rather than enforceable; adherence is not externally audited. Its documented impact on the ibogaine space is normative and convening: it produced a common reference for safety practice, gave the sector a shared vocabulary for risk, and created a forum in which providers and researchers exchanged information at a time when no regulator was doing so.
